MOUNT AIRY Mr. Elbert Arnold Bandy, 63, of Mount Airy, passed away at Waccamaw Community Hospital in South Carolina on May 28, 2009. Mr. Bandy was born on May 27, 1946, in Tazewell County, Va., to the late George Thomas and Melissa Mitchell Bandy. He retired from Kentucky Derby and attended Fancy Gap Baptist Church. Mr. Bandy is survived by a daughter, Sherry Bandy of Mount Airy; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary Bandy of Mount Airy, Barry and Kimberly Bandy of Burlington and Shawn Bandy of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Erikr Price, Derrick Bandy, Brittany Bandy, Brianna Bandy and Reece Bandy; stepgrandchildren, Chip Euliss, Jim Euliss and Stuart Euliss; sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia and Grady Ogle of Camden, S.C., and Nannie Blankenship of Bluefield, Va.; brothers, Junior Bandy of Bluefield, Va., Jessie Bandy of Maryland and Jack Bandy of San Antonio, Texas; and girlfriend, Nancy Gammons of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bandy was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Bandy. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 31, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dwight Sechrist with burial to follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
