Surry Community College will be hosting an employment fair on April 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the schools gymnasium.
The fair, which the college has hosted for several years, is open to current and former students of SCC as well as the general public and is free of charge.
The college has opened the event up mainly to employers in Surry and Yadkin counties who have or expect to have jobs available in the near future. By concentrating on these businesses, the college hopes to help members of the community who are ready to find jobs.
Come, dress professionally, if you have a resume then bring it, and bring a smile on your face, said Debbie Benge, coordinator of cooperative education and one of the organizers for the event. I think its a really good thing for the community. We sent hundreds of letters out.
Benge said the committee has invited more businesses this year than in the past and they usually hear back from 40-50 people saying they will come. This is the first year the fair has been opened to businesses in Yadkin County.
Businesses looking to attend must register by April 3 to have a space at the event.
The event also coincides with the colleges SWEAT Day. This event is presented by the student government association and acts as a workforce preparedness day.
There will be speakers at the event discussing topics such as leadership and how soft skills are useful in the workplace.
