Its only early May, but Reeves Community Center already is set to dive into summer by launching registration for its swimming program Monday.
A full slate of American Red Cross swim lessons designed for all ages will be offered at the center this summer.
Included are parent and child aquatics geared toward families with children ages 18 months to 36 months; pre-school aquatics for ages 3 to 5; and six other levels of swimming classes ranging from introductory water skills to advanced stroke development/refinement and skill proficiency.
A beginning swim class also is planned for adults.
Six different blocks of morning sessions lasting some 11 days each are slated from June 15 through Aug. 21. Two one-month blocks of evening classes are scheduled from June 8-July 9 and July 13-Aug. 13.
Both 30-minute and one-hour classes are offered.
After beginning Monday, registration will continue as long as space remains in classes. RCC officials say the classes always fill up, so persons interested are advised to call the center Monday at 786-8313.
Signups also begin Monday for the RCC Rapids summer swim team. It is open to persons ages 5 to 18, who are required to have beginner-level skills.
Among other events, the community center will offer a summer park program for youths at J.J. Jones Intermediate School which will include a variety of sports and other activities.
In addition, registration begins on June 1 for RCCs 2009-10 after-school program that will run from 2 to 6 p.m. and include a computer lab and homework helper along with games and more.
An offering that encourages teachers to get fit during the summer is planned as well. It will include aerobics, yoga and pilates, swimming, water aerobics and additional activities.
More program details and fee information can be obtained from the community center.
