ELKIN The Surry County Board of Commissioners will meet at Elkin High School this session rather than at the Surry County Government Center in Dobson. The commissioners typically meet in Elkin once a year.
The meeting will be called to order at 6 p.m. in the media center of the school. The invocation and Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Commissioner Jim Harrell Jr.
Surry County Planning Director Kim Bates will give an update on the Al Crocker property. He will also present a street closure resolution and an update on zoning for the Mount Airy/Surry County Airport.
At 6:15 p.m., Adam McComb, Parks and Recreation director, will discuss the Surry County Scenic Bikeway Signage project.
Don Mitchell, Facilities Management director, will present paving bids to the board.
John Shelton, Emergency Services director, is scheduled to speak at 6:45 p.m. on bids for the Radio Consoles Project.
At 7 p.m., the board will have special recognition for Jim Shepherd, Linda Erlandson, Frank Beals and Mary McCrary for their contributions to Surry County.
Jack Gardin, Water and Sewer Projects coordinator, will seek approval to execute two grant agreements from the Golden LEAF Foundation. He will also ask the board for a resolution for application to North Carolina Department of Water Quality for economic stimulus funds for the Interstates Water and Sewer District. Gardin will also discuss the contract with Hobbs Upchurch and Associates for administering the Community Development Block Grant project for the Tobe Hudson water line.
Gardin will also present interim connection costs/rate schedule for the Tobe Hudson/Oak Grove Church Road water line and will lead a discussion of a memorandum from UNC School of Government/Environmental Finance Center.
At 8 p.m., Betty Taylor, assistant county manager for budget and finance, will present Pine Ridge election costs, the Red Flags Policy, which is a Federal Trade Commission requirement, bids for banking services and cell phone/Blackberry services.
Following Taylors presentation, County Manager Dennis Thompson will discuss general county business.
The commissioners are scheduled to discuss general county business at 8:30 p.m.
At 8:45 p.m., there will be a closed session for personnel and economic development.
