YANCEYVILLE East Surry ripped off a near-perfect game while disposing of Bartlett Yancey, 50-6, Friday night.
The visiting Cardinals (4-0) did it all. Offense? They ground out 233 yards rushing and a grand total of 284 yards. What about defense? The Buccaneers were held to negative yardage and James Gosnell returned a fumble 60 yards for a score and Hunter Diamont took a pick to the house. Throw in a blocked punt recovered for a touchdown and its hard to find a flaw in East Surrys evening.
The Cardinals got on the board early and often, scoring 20 points in the first quarter. Markus Brown started the onslaught with a 29-yard touchdown run on the second play of the game, then Joe Reid Denny tacked on an 8-yard scamper. Gosnells fumble return also occurred during the first.
Hunter Diamont found the end zone from four yards out and that coupled with a safety gave the Cardinals a 29-0 lead at halftime.
The Buccaneers (2-2) used a quick score to start the second half, but that was as close as they would get. Jamar Shaw brought back the opening kickoff of the third quarter for the home teams only points.
The remainder of the third saw Denny recover a blocked punt in the end zone and Diamont intercept a pass and take it 30 yards for a score.
Danny Malone capped the Cardinals scoring with a 1-yard run in the final quarter.
Diamont rushed for 99 yards on nine carries, while Brown chipped in 57 rushing yards.
Bartlett Yancey was held to 20 passing yards and -78 on the ground.
