GREENSBORO The Surry Runnin Patriots girls basketball team remained unbeaten with a 55-37 romp over host Caldwell Academy Tuesday night.
Rebekah Sikes paced the visitors with 17 points and eight rebounds. She scored 13 of her points during the first half, including 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
They just had no answer for her, Surry coach John Peters said. She was driving on them, she was shooting on them.
In fact, the Runnin Patriots as a team were hard to stop. They scored 21 in the first quarter and took a 38-23 lead at halftime.
We were just really, really hot from the field, Peters said. We hit 64 percent from the field in the first quarter.
Suzie Santucci added 14 points, six rebounds and six steals. Hannah Tompkins scored 12.
The Runnin Patriots also excelled defensively. They held Caldwell to four points in the third quarter, which helped the visitors overcome a six-point effort of their own.
Up next for Surry (8-0) is a date with Carlisle School of Martinsville ,Va. Carlisle has won four of the past six state titles in its classification and finished last season as the state runner-up.
