Members of the Surry Central womens track and field team will try to parlay their success found at regionals into something bigger this weekend at the NCHSAA 2A state championship meet, held in Greensboro.
At the May 16 western regional meet, the Golden Eagles girls finished in fifth place, with first-place finishes in four events. They won the 4 x 400-meter relay in 4 minutes, 23.14 seconds. Raven Stanley took the pole vault with a 10-foot effort. Sophomore Samantha Mosley won the triple jump with leaps that equaled 32-4.75. Patty Murphys discus toss of 103 feet was also good for first.
The North Surry girls team finished seventh at regionals. In boys action, the Golden Eagles finished 13th out of the 18 ranked teams.
