MOUNT AIRY Mr. Raymond Howard Slim Reeves, 69, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Surry County on June 19, 1940, to the late Austin and Ruie Faw Reeves. Mr. Reeves retired from Proctor Silex after many years of service. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gordon Howard and Lesa Reeves of Rural Hall; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Alan McAuley of Palm Bay, Fla.; grandchildren, Justin Howard Reeves and Tanner Harrison Reeves; stepgrandson, Chandler Hull; four brothers, Marvin Reeves of Bassett, Va., Don Reeves of Old Henry, Va., Austin Reeves Jr. of Lowgap and Elbert Reeves of Deberry, Fla.; his girlfriend and companion of nine years, Alice Bowman of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by an infant sister and four brothers, Sidney, Otto, Jack and Uriah Reeves. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family would like to express its appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the wonderful care given to Mr. Reeves during his illness.
