College president serving on committee

DOBSON Dr. Deborah Friedman has been elected to the executive committee of the North Carolina Association of Community College Presidents.
Friedman has served as president of Surry Community College since January of 2008.
The Association provides a forum for college presidents across North Carolina to network for the advancement of the North Carolina Community College System made up of 58 community colleges serving more than 800,000 students. Community colleges provide programs that help build the economy by educating a workforce with a focus on current and future job opportunities.
Surry Community College serves students at its main campus, Workforce Development Center, Yadkin Center and community facilities providing educational access. Centers for learning, education and retraining are scheduled to open in Elkin and Pilot Mountain in 2010. Surry serves 3,500 curriculum students and 14,000 corporate and continuing education students annually.
