CANA, Va. Mr. Ules Murphy Hawks, 72, of Cana, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Northern Hospital. He was born in Carroll County, Va., on July 20, 1937, to the late Troy Murphy and Viola Edwards Hawks. Mr. Hawks was owner operator of Hawks Brothers Grocery in Cana and was a member of Rocky Ford Christian Church. Mr. Hawks is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha Bernice Leftwich Hawks of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Joe Parrott of Cana; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Crystal Hawks, of Pilot Mountain; one granddaughter, Kristie Parrott of Cana; sisters and a brother-in-law, Gladys Combs, Imogene and Raymond Dawson, Dorsa Hawks all of Cana and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by two brothers, Wade and Dallas Hawks. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Rocky Ford Christian Church by the Rev. Billy Moore. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
