DOBSON This years Beef Backer Award winning restaurant is The Depot, of Dobson. This one-of-a-kind eatery features a menu full of beef offerings and choices to whet any appetite. The hand-cut steaks are one feature, as most of the locals here know.
Criteria for the award are based on menu creativity, use of new beef cuts, quality of beef products, menu share of beef, marketing communications and waitstaff training programs. The Depot appeals to the whole family and provides a wonderful dining experience.
The Depot is nestled in a picturesque location. The driveway winds through wooded surroundings before passing through a covered bridge with a barn-like feel. The secluded cabin setting continues inside the restaurant with exposed beams and natural wood paneling alongside wrought iron work. Inside, one will find a nature scene with bear, deer and bobcat over a waterfall with a small pond.
Obviously the owners of The Depot are truly involved with their establishment. The chef selects and hand-cuts every steak to insure the diners satisfaction. Elements such as this are almost unheard of in these times. The dedication and care that has been devoted to the restaurant is apparent. With this level of service in a cozy atmosphere, its no wonder the tables are full of guests most all of the hours its open, said Everett Johnson, a cattle producer and president of the N.C. Cattlemens Association of Siloam.
