CANA, VA.Mr. Grady Leewood Sechrist, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, 92, of 472 Splitrail Road, Cana, died Friday, August 14, 2009, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born June 28, 1917, in Surry County to the late General Silas and Cora Johnson Sechrist. Mr. Sechrist was an army veteran having served during WWII. He was a retired brick mason and a member of Faith Baptist Church of Mount Airy, N.C. Survivors include his wife Alma Chappell Sechrist of the home; daughters and sons-in-law: Frances and husband Robert Richardson; Mount Airy, Carolyn and husband Donnie Goad; Winston-Salem, N.C., Nancy and husband Donald Bryant; Woodlawn, Va., Audrey and husband Michael Mills; Mount Airy, Barbara and husband Bobby Bullins; Mount Airy and Mary Ann Smith and Bobby Smith; Cana; sons and daughters-in-law: Roger and wife Judy Sechrist; Mount Airy, Ralph and wife Beverly Sechrist, Rockwell, N.C., Charles and wife Laura Sechrist, Martinsville, Tim Sechrist and Amanda Tate; Mount Airy, Gary and wife Kim Sechrist, Cana and Jonathan and wife Kathy Sechrist, Westfield, N.C.; forty-two grandchildren; sixty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law: Ernie and husband Wade Bowman; Cana; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jimmy and wife Ona Mae Sechrist; Cana and Paul and wife Peggy Sechrist, Cana; daughter-in-law: Diane Sechrist; Pilot Mountain, N.C.; brother-in-law: Jim Chappell; Cana and sister-in-law: Phyllis and husband Lois Gwynn; Las Vegas, Nev. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sechrist was preceded in death by one grandchild Melissa Bullins, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church of Mount Airy conducted by the Rev. Randy Edwards with interment to follow in Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military rites to be conducted by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard Post# 2019 of Mount Airy and Post# 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 15, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howell Funeral Service of Mount Airy.
