Details were sketchy Thursday evening, but a local man was airlifted to North Carolina Baptist Hospital after being shot in what an emergency services official called a drive-by shooting.
John Shelton, Emergency Services director for Surry County, said the shooting occurred at 8:29 p.m. in Low Gap and was being classified as a drive-by shooting.
Hes in critical condition, Shelton said. Right now, thats all we have.
Unconfirmed reports also indicated the man, who was not identified by authorities, was wounded by a 9 mm bullet and that he was suffering some paralysis.
The case was still under investigation, with no arrests late Thursday night.
