ARARAT, VAMrs. Imogene Gunnell Moore, 89, of 1536 Rabbit Ridge Road, Ararat, Va. widow of Mr. James William Moore passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at home. She was born Feb. 20, 1920 in Surry County to the late Floyd Columbus Lum and Nancy Noonkester Gunnell. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a mighty Christian. She was retired from Pine State Knitting. Mrs. Moore was a member of the White Sulphur Springs Home Extension Club, Salem United Methodist Church and was a former active member of the Victory Baptist Church. Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Helen and Fred Gwynn, Ararat, Va., Nancy Haynes, Ararat, Va., Lois and Alfred Hiatt, Mount Airy, N.C. and Dare and Henry Kimbrough, Mt. Ulla, N.C., eleven grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Hassie Gunter, Mount Airy, special friend, Terrie Scales, Ararat, Va. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Hansel Haynes, two brothers, Ralph C. Gunnell Sr. and Clyde E. Gunnell. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Salem United Methodist Church with Bud Cameron, pastor and the Rev. Stewart Roten, Hospice Chaplain officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Salem United Methodist Church.
