DOBSON Mr. Bernard Samuel Toone, 80, of Dobson, passed away on Friday night, Aug. 7, 2009, at the Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born in Mecklenburg County, Va., on June 23, 1929, to the late Charlie Mataugh Toone and the late Mamie Susan Susie Farrar Toone. He was retired from the NC DOT and was an elder and faithful member of Salem Fork Christian Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lorene McCraw Toone of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharlene and Bryan Mills of Dobson; two very special grandsons, Andrew Mills and Jacob Mills; one sister and brother-in-law, Lacy and John Day of Frederick, Md.; one brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Geneva Toone of Mount Airy; two brothers-in-law, Ed Trammell of Drakes Branch, Va., and Ralph Dyer of South Boston, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Toone was preceded in death by five sisters, Beatrice Camp, Maude Vargo, Delma Payne, Cora Trammell and Lois Dyer; and four brothers, Robert Toone, Yancey Toone, Sim C.M. Toone and Edward Toone. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at Salem Fork Christian Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. June Haislip will conduct the services. His body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the services.
