The Mount Airy boys tennis team recorded its second 9-0 win over a Northwest 1-A opponent with Wednesdays drubbing of South Stokes.
Nick John, Brooks Mayberry, Chance Hall, Matt Kessler, Eric Belton, and Alex Ilyasob all scored singles victories. In the doubles portions, Mayberry teamed with Kessler, Belton with Ilyasob and Hall with Nate Hagar for the trio of wins.
We have balance from No. 1 through No. 6, coach Frank Mayberry said. I think were playing really well in all positions.
Belton is perhaps playing best of all. He has yet to lose a singles match or as part of a tandem this year.
The Granite Bears (2-2, 2-0) have only lost to Mount Tabor, a 4-A school located in Winston-Salem. Even those losses were tough, as both ended 5-4. Mount AIry returns to the court Tuesday when it hosts Alleghany at 5 p.m.
