CANA, Va. Mr. Harlie Raymond McMillian, 94, of Cana, passed away at his home surrounded by his family Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009. Mr. McMillian was born in Carroll County on July 30, 1915, to the late Stonewall Jackson and Margaret Evaline Easter McMillian. He was a kind and gentle man, well known and liked by everyone in the community. Mr. McMillian was an orchardist and attended Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Franie Hawks McMillian of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Clayton Jones, JoAnn and Clarence Jones and Janice and Marlie Crotts, all of Cana, and Brenda and Dave Brown of Spartanburg, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Brenda McMillian of Cana; 10 grandchildren, Brian, Brent and Faron Jones, Julie Burcham, Jeremy and Jamie Crotts, Melanie Webb and Kenny, Scottie and Dennis McMillian; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Essie Mayes; and half sisters, Beulah Edwards, Bertie Hawks, Imogene Hodge, Mary Jones and Joyce Samuel. In addition to his parents, Mr. McMillian was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Effie Hawks McMillian; three grandchildren, Kim Jones, Elizabeth McMillian Combs and Ashley Reynolds; a sister, Ocie Felts; brothers, Bill, Roger and Joel McMillian; four infant brothers and sisters; half sister, Blanche Williams; and half brothers, Raleigh and Robert McMillian. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Arwood Edwards, the Rev. Tommy Vass and the Rev. Marlie Hawks. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at the church from noon until the time of the service.
