MOUNT AIRY Mrs. Hester Bruner, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away on March 28, 2009, at Northern Surry Hospital. She was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Surry County. Mrs. Bruner was a member of the Pilot Mountain Community Church. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Things that Hester enjoyed most were her children, church, reading the Bible, working in her garden and flowers. She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Allred of Dobson and Norma Jean Taylor of Ararat; nine sons, Billy Ray and Hilda Bruner of Ararat, Dean Martin and Carolyn Bruner of Ararat, Larry Junior and Lena Bruner of Mount Airy, Curtis Edward and Nancy Bruner of Mount Airy, Ricky Dale and Lavern Bruner of Ararat, Timothy Andrew and Donna Bruner of Mount Airy, Dwight Aaron and Vicky Bruner of Mount Airy, Stephen Allen and Anita Bruner of Mount Airy and Gregory Taylor Bruner of Ararat; one daughter-in-law, Annie Mae Bruner of Ararat; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Celia and Bill Shinault of Ararat and Bertie Beck and Gladys ONeal, both of High Point. Mrs. Bruner was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Cummings Wall; her late husband of 64 years, Lacy Martin Bruner; one son, Bobby Gray Bruner; and two brothers, Tom Cummings and J.W. Wall. The Bruner family would like to give a special thanks to all of the staff on the second floor of Northern Surry Hospital and to Mountain Valley Hospice of Mount Airy. They would also like to thank her caregivers, Pat Ladd, Darlene Wilson, Nicky Wall and Allene. The funeral will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Pine Hill Friends Church with the Rev. Roby Wilcox, the Rev. Dale Bass, the Rev. Bobby Jenkins, the Rev. Webb Parsons and the Rev. Gary Sawyers officiating with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family on Monday, March 30, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain is assisting the Bruner family.
