MOUNT AIRY Mrs. Bertha Virginia Nichols Hodges, 92, of 147 Galyean Street, Mount Airy, widow of Mr. Jahue Hodges passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Alleghany County to the late William and Laurel Joines Nichols. She was member of Shining Light Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Surviving is a two daughters and a son-in-law, Zula Goins of Mount Airy and Diane and Ronald Wood of Lowgap; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Faye Hodges of Mount Airy, Jim and Carolyn Hodges of Mount Airy and Mack and Nelda Hodges of Woodleaf; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Josie Nichols of Cana, Va. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by four grandchildren, Randy Hodges, Bobby Nelson, Deonna Hiatt and Michael Hodges; a great-great grandchild, Anikan Goins; four sisters, Florence Brinkley, Bertie Nichols, Nan Nichols and Vertie Slate; and thee brothers, Walter Nichols, Leff Nichols and Sam Nichols. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday at Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Ennice. conducted by the Rev. Elmo Hiatt. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy.
