Surry splits with Blue Ridge

DOBSON Surry Community College had a breakout day Saturday, smacking 22 hits and scoring 21 runs all with a legal bat, mind you.
After Fridays double header sweep and Saturdays split with Blue Ridge C.C., the Knights bats are back in action. But Blue Ridge thought something was strange with an Easton Stealth the Knights used and asked the umpires to check the back not only Friday, but Saturday as well.
It makes a different kind of sound, Surry coach Jamie Lowe said. Its not the ping sound that you get from an aluminum bat. Its more like a wooden bat.
The bat turned out to be legal twice and the Knights were left with impressive run totals.
In the first game Saturday, Seth Miller and Montana Brigman, who used the infamous Stealth, homered. Andre Nichols went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Randy ODell was 2-for-3 with a double and scored three times.
In the second game, the Knights scored six runs in the second inning, but succumbed after Blue Ridge scored four runs in the top of the seventh.
We swung the bat a lot better than we have been, Lowe said. Hopefully that will jump start our offense a little bit.
Brigman homered again in the second game, while Brad Bridgeman and Michael Radford doubled.
The Knights (21-23, 7-14 Region X) host Wytheville C.C. Tuesday.
