SILOAM Allen Roy Whitaker, 66, of Siloam passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him in love, Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a 10 month battle from complications of diabetes and most recently a significant heart attack. He was born Nov. 7, 1942, the son of the late Roy Rueben and Ozelle Ring Whitaker. Allen is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Ruth Ann Chilton Whitaker; one daughter, Lori Ann Whitaker (Gregg) Inscore; grandaughter, Sarah Ann Inscore of North Wilkesboro; son, Michael Allen (Jenny Law)Whitaker of Hillsborough; son, John Roy Whitaker of the home; special grand dog, Maggie; special aunt, Lula Mae Brown of Central Continuing Care of Mount Airy; and special cousins, Jo Ann DeZarn, Arnold Eads, Gay Snow of Siloam, Carolyn Scott of Matthews and Jim Eads of Pilot Mountain. Allen retired from R.J.R. Packaging after working there for 37 1/2 years as a Process Engineer. Allen was former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 575 at Eldora. Allen was the head coach of Little League team Copeland Bluejays. Allen was a member of the Copeland Masonic Lodge #390 A.F. & A.M. and went through the 32nd degree with the Winston-Salem Scottish Rite Bodies. Allen was a former member of the Copeland Ruritan Club. Throughout his life Allen devoted himself to family, friends and the community. His joys in life were golfing, fishing and beach trips. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. Funeral services for Allen will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Cox Needham Chapel in Pilot Mountain with the Rev. Will Eads officiating with interment to follow in the Pine Hill Friends Meeting Church Cemetery with Masonic Burial Rites conducted by the Copeland Masonic Lodge #390 A.F. & A.M. Floral tribute will be accepted or donations to the Sarah Inscore Fund c/o Ruth Ann Whitaker of 831 Stanford Church Road, Siloam, NC 27047. Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain is assisting the Whitaker family.
