WINSTON-SALEM Mrs. Sue Carol Walker Joyce, 69, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 14, 1940, in Somerset, Ky., to the late James Andrew Walker and Lorene Burton Walker. Mrs. Joyce was a Christian woman who will be remembered for her unwavering morals, her love for her family and caring friends. She lovingly dedicated her life to nurturing and raising her family. Mrs. Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Russell Walker; and an infant sister, Betty Walker. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Dwayne Walker; and one sister, Bernice Wilson. Mrs. Joyce is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, James E. Joyce Sr. of the home; five children, Melinda Joyce Hill (Gary) of King, Patty Joyce Sonovick (Roy) of Burlington, James E. Joyce Jr. (April) of Siloam, Jennifer Joyce Shore (Scott) of Pinnacle and Sgt. Jason A. Joyce (Darla) of Brandon Suffold England, Lakenheath AFB; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Charles Walker of Pecos, Texas, Noel Walker of Westminster, Calif., and Harold Walker of Wilmington, Ohio; one sister, Lois Nelson (Bud) of Pecos, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Pastor Carl Goodman officiating and son-in-law, Roy Sonovick, to give the eulogy. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital or to a charity of their choice.
