James-Slate couple marry at First United Methodist Church

Gabrielle Kahlian James and Ashton Nicholas Slate were married on Nov. 14 at First United Methodist Church in Hickory by the Rev. Robert Roach and the Rev. Buford Jessup.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew C. James of Hickory and Mr. and Mrs. Mark Clark of Hickory. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. V. Turner James of Hickory, Patricia Huffman and the late James Huffman of Surfside Beach, S.C. She graduated from Hickory High School and from East Carolina University with a B.S. degree. She is a teacher with Wake County Public Schools.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Kent Slate of Mount Airy and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Molleur of Statesville. He is the grandson of Bessie and the late E. Clifton Ashburn of Siloam and Noami Slate and the late Bob Slate of Mount Airy. He graduated from East Surry High School, East Carolina University with a B.S. degree and from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with an MPA. He is employed with The Wooten Company, an engineering consulting company.
The maid of honor was Tracy Bink of Raleigh, and the matron of honor was Heather Huffman of Catawba. The bridesmaids were Maggie James of Greenville; Jennifer James of Hickory; and Danielle Barnes of Charlotte.
The best man was Jonathan Williams of Greenville. The groomsmen were Adam Riggs of Greensboro; Jason Maddox of Lynchburg, Va.; Patrick Clark of Valdese; and Josh James of Morganton.
Music was provided by Luana Bink, pianist, and Sarah Johnson, soloist.
A scripture was read by Meg Beach. The guest book and program attendants were Jamie Williams and Dawn Maddox.
The reception was held at Lake Hickory Country Club. Music was provided by DJ Sam Bibgy.
The rehearsal dinner was held at Lake Hickory Country Club.
The couple went to St. Lucia on their honeymoon. They will reside in Raleigh.
