The North Surry girls volleyball team stayed perfect in section play with a victory over Northwest 1A/2A foe Surry Central. The Greyhounds (7-0, 3-0) won by scores of 25-12, 25-7 and 25-13.
Morgan Bunker served 14 of 15 with an ace, Emily Culler was 13 of 14 with an ace and Sara Parker was 7 of 7.
We served well tonight to set up our offense, North Surry coach Shane Slate said.
Courtney Campbell led the way with six kills, followed by Summer Robertson with five and Morgan Bunker with four.
Campbell and Bunker had three digs apiece in a statistical category that caught the eye of Slate.
I thought our perimeter defense was solid for the most part of the night because we converted 88-percent of our dig attempts.
The Greyhounds will hose South Stokes next Tuesday before hosting East Surry Thursday.
Mount Airy shuts down West Stokes
Mount Airy got to breathe a little easier in its win over West Stokes Thursday, the first match in a week in which the Granite Bears didnt win in comeback fashion.
After going the distance against in its last two games, Mount Airy took care of the Wildcats 25-15, 25-21 and 25-21.
Coach Sarah Knott said she thinks her team is coming together nicely over the past few games.
We are playing pretty good as a team right now, even in the comeback wins, Knott said. Tonight we played together. We are hustling and we are getting to balls that sometimes we wouldnt have in the past. The key right now just playing mainly together as a team if we can continue to play like that it could be a good season for us.
Lauren Smith had three blocks and two kills for the Bears with Skylar Davis adding five kills of her own.
