DOBSON The Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet the Candidates Forum for hopefuls running for the Dobson Board of Commissioners and the mayors seat on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Dobson Town Hall.
Kenneth Earnest is challenging incumbent Mayor Ricky Draughn.
Six candidates are vying for two seats on the town board. The seat held by Wayne Atkins is up for grabs and the seat held by Commissioner Clarence Collins, who did not file to run again, is open. Atkins was sworn in on Feb. 19 after former commissioner Stan Newman resigned due to a conflict of interest when he was employed as an inspector by the county.
Former town commissioner and the mayors father, Kermit Draughn, is running for a board seat. T. Jonathan Snow, John Lawson, Ron Atkins, Ted Ring and Wayne Atkins are also running to be on the board. The top two vote-getters will hold the seats.
This forum is not intended to be a debate between candidates or between the audience and candidates, according to Yadkin Valley Chamber President Laurette Leagon. All questions will be asked by the moderator, Mike Hester.
In order to maintain decorum, political literature and signage will not be allowed in the town hall.
Response time will be limited to one minute per candidate per question. Following the question-and-answer session, the candidates may make short closing statements lasting up to two minutes.
The Yadkin Valley Chamber is also hosting the Elkin and Jonesville candidate forums.
