Yard sale set to benefit area arts

The Surry Arts Council is holding a major yard sale Friday and Saturday, and the proceeds will be used to create an endowment for free family programming.
This is a big deal for us because of this opportunity to raise money for our free cultural arts programming, said Tanya Jones, the executive director of the arts council.
In its 2008-09 season, the SAC provided more than 100 free cultural arts programs for more than 30,000 local students. The sum cost of those programs totaled $70,000. These programs are also funded in part by the annual SAC Arts Ball, which raised $22,000 this year.
The yard sale will take place Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Andy Griffith Playhouse parking lot.
Jones said the sale will include a wide variety of new clothing including fleece hoodies and youth sportswear. All for $3 each.
Thats 70 to 95 percent off of retail pricing, Jones said, adding there are about a thousand pieces of clothing.
The yard sale will also include fabric trim, zippers, braid and cording as well as used office furnishings. Everything was donated, she said.
