Auditions set for summer plays

Auditions for Surry Arts Councils Summer Stock 2009 will be held on March 16, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Andy Griffith Playhouse at 218 Rockford St., Mount Airy.
There are male and female roles for ages 16 and up. Auditioners will read from a script that night, so no monologues are required. For more information, email director Brack Llewellyn at [email protected]
This seasons plays include three comedies. Lying in State will be performed at Cross Creek Country Club on May 1 and 2. When a state senator dies in a ridiculous accident, he becomes a national hero, surrounded by an increasingly bizarre group of rivals, ex-wives, stripper girlfriends and other hangers-on.
A Bad Year for Tomatoes follows a former child star who retires to a quirky little town to write her memoirs. A scheme to secure her privacy ends up with the whole town believing that shes committed murder. Performances for this play will be held on May 9, June 13, July 25 and Aug. 22.
Neil Simons Chapter Two is an auto-biographical play about a widowed writer who has given up on and then love meets his match in an attractive actress. Schedules performances for Chapter Two are May 23, June 27, Aug. 1 and Sept. 5.
Shelby Footes Shiloh follows the pivotal Civil War battle, seen through the remembrances of soldiers and civilians who were there. This historical play on June 7, July 11 and Aug. 9.
In Wedding of the Siamese Twins (May 30, July 3, Aug. 8, Sept. 12), the world famous joined brothers Eng and Chang Bunker pursue North Carolinas own Yates sisters for the purposes of courtship, marriage and family.
