NORMANTOWN, W.Va. James Franklin Ankrom, 75, of Normantown, passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. James was born June 27, 1933, at Fairmont, son of the late Edwin L. Ankrom and Mark K. (Stansberry) Ankrom. Jim died peacefully in his sleep. A gentle and loving father, he cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never knew a stranger. He was an avid reader, especially books concerning the Civil War. He coached young boys baseball in Fairmont, as well as his sons team. He was a loyal Buckeye fan and WVU fan. He traveled all over the United States on his Honda Goldwing motorcycle with his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann. After living many years in Columbus, Ohio, he eagerly retired to the great state of West Virginia. Jim was a printer for over 40 years. He worked for the Fairmont Times newspaper and then the Columbus Dispatch newspaper, where he retired. He was a member of The Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Glenville. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Glenville, Scottish Rite, York Rite, 32nd degree and the Shriners. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann (Carbone) Ankrom; four children, Julie K. Ankrom of Columbus, Catherine Anne Anderson and her husband, Alan, of Cana, Va., James Franklin Ankrom Jr. and his wife, Tina, of Galena, Ohio, and Joseph Michael Ankrom of Galloway, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Anna Carbone of Fairmont; three grandchildren, Deanna Berrier, Andrew Anderson and Alexis Ankrom; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail Anderson and Lucas Berrier. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Wayne Ankrom; and an infant son, John Richard Ankrom. He was the sun that lit up our lives. Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Sister Stella Cronauer officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairmont with Father Robert Perriello as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Masonic service will be conducted at the graveside. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Shriners Burn Hospital, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45229-3095.
