A city man has been jailed under a $24,000 secured bond on a felony charge of being a fugitive from justice, according to the Mount Airy Police Department. After being located on Durham Street Saturday, Larry Dwayne Morton, 34, of 1523 W. Pine St., was found to have been entered in the National Crime Information Center database by authorities in Carroll County, Va., where Morton is wanted for larceny. He was confined in the Surry County Jail, with a court appearance set for Jan. 15.
Jeremiah Logan Cockerham, 25, of 603 E. Haymore St., was charged Sunday with allowing a dog to run at large in connection with a beagle he owns allegedly being loose. A Feb. 5 court date was set in the case.
Robert Darnell Thomas, 47, of 724 Depot St., was cited for barking dogs early Sunday after complaints were reported from neighbors. Thomas had received several warnings about the dogs, according to police records. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 5.
Harry Wade Bowman, 34, of 117 Chestnut Ridge Road, was arrested on six different violations Friday after being stopped by Officer B.L. Quesinberry for allegedly driving 57 mph in an 35 mph zone, and fleeing on foot. Bowman is charged with resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer; driving while impaired; driving with license revoked; speeding; and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was served with two outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court. Bowman, who was jailed under a $17,000 secured bond, is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on Feb. 2. A passenger in Bowmans car, Melissa Irene Brown, 26, of 104 Cedar Trail, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and also is facing a Feb. 2 court appearance.
Donna Jarrell Haynes, a Reeves Mill Road resident, told police Friday night that her wallet was either stolen or lost while she was at Moody Funeral Services on West Pine Street. The wallet contained $40 in cash along with credit and debit cards. The case is listed as inactive, with no leads to pursue at this time.
A motorcycle and other items valued at $1,180 altogether were reported stolen Thursday from the Laurel Creek Drive residence of Ross Wesley Minty. After entering a building through an unlocked door, someone took the 1988 Yamaha along with a chainsaw, weedeater, shovels and other property. The case is listed as inactive, with no leads to pursue at this time.
James Grayson Hall Jr., 46, of 3637 Old Highway 601, was charged with hit and run Wednesday after allegedly striking a vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot and leaving without providing information. Hall is facing a Feb. 25 appearance in Surry District Court.
Tamara Nicole Ayers of Welcome Church Road told police Wednesday that the registration plate, number XNJ6811, was stolen from her 2003 Volkswagen Jetta in the parking lot of Belk Department Store, where she works. The plate was entered in the National Crime Information Center database.
