Staff Report

A random drawing has been used by this areas congressional representative to allocate inauguration tickets to Surry and other residents of North Carolinas Fifth District.
Each member of Congress received 198 tickets to distribute among constituents interested in attending the Jan. 20 Inaugural Ceremonies for President-Elect Barack Obama.
Rep. Virginia Foxx, whose congressional district includes Surry and 11 other counties, announced the availability of tickets from the official Inaugural Committee in mid-November. Her office said Tuesday that they had all been allocated.
After being selected through the random drawing earlier this month, all the winners were notified.
Those who are receiving tickets must pick them up in Foxxs Washington, D.C., office on Jan. 19 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. It is located in Room 1230 of the Longworth House Office Building.
Photo identification will be required at that time, and an ID must match the name of the contact person before tickets will be released.
Presidential inaugurations are historic events, Foxx said in a statement released by her office Tuesday. It is an honor to be able to serve constituents by distributing tickets to the inaugural ceremony and I hope that those who did not get tickets are able to visit Washington on Jan. 20 and participate in the events on the National Mall.
She explained that anyone not receiving a ticket to the 56th Presidential Inauguration from a congressional office is still welcome to attend and should plan to be on the mall early on the morning of Inauguration Day.
The ticketed area of the event will hold about 240,000 people and will be situated on the West Capitol grounds. Those with tickets are advised to arrive early to ensure timely processing through security, and to consult the Inaugural Committees official Web site at inaugural.senate.gov for more details on scheduling, security and prohibited items.
Anyone from North Carolinas Fifth District is welcome to stop by Foxxs office on Jan. 19. Her staff will be available to answer any questions.
