WESTFIELD — Mrs. Rebecca “Becky” Anne Payne Smith, 68, of Westfield, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born Feb. 2, 1944, in Forsyth County to the late Thomas Preston Payne Jr. and Roxie Anne Hunter Payne. Mrs. Smith graduated from Westfield High School and Guilford College, where she was a Dana Scholar. She taught elementary school at Westfield Elementary School in Surry County and also in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System for 30 years. Mrs. Smith was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an educational society and the Surry County Retired School Personnel. Mrs. Smith was a member of Westfield Baptist Church, where she was very active as long as her health permitted. She loved beach trips, music, reading, sports events (especially the Tar Heels) and watching the grandkids play sports. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Larry Smith of the home; two wonderful sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sue Smith of Pilot Mountain and Chris and Pepper Smith of Pilot Mountain; and five loving grandchildren, Alex Smith, Ashley Smith, Jordan Smith, Tyler Smith and Cydna Anne Smith. Funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Westfield Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Joel Stephens with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Nick Chrysson, Shelley Combs and the staff at Piedmont Hematology-Oncology at Mount Airy for their wonderful care over the years and to the entire staff of the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
