Lady Cards sweep Lady Camels 9-0 in tennis

PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry got back to its winning ways with a 9-0 sweep of Atkins in tennis.

The Lady Cardinals got off to a good start, beating North Surry and Winston-Salem Prep handily, but then they suffered through a 5-4 loss to Surry Central and were trailing in every match to Mount Airy when rains fell on Thursday.

In a conference match with the Lady Camels, the Cards won every match by a combined 96-14 score.

At the top spot, Tiffany King won 6-1, 6-1, Haley Manuel by 6-0, 6-0 and Brooke Tickle 6-0, 6-2.

Allie Hawks won 6-0, 6-3, Mikayla Manuel 6-1, 6-0 and Sarah Gibson 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles play, King and Haley Manuel won 8-1. Tickle and Hawks 8-1, and Mikayla Manuel and Gibson 8-2.

After last week, it felt good to come back to win again, said Coach David Kidd.

The Cards have a tough road the rest of the week. They travel to Elkin today, then to conference leader Bishop McGuinness on Thursday.
