The third annual Taylormade Fore Craig Golf Tournament will be held at Cross Creek Country Club on Sept. 19.
The first was held on Oct. 6, 2011, in honor of former county commissioner Craig Hunter of Mount Airy, who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS.
After Hunter’s diagnosis three years ago, friends and co-chairs of the golf tournament, Traci Haynes and Farah Davis, decided to help. They put together the golf fundraiser that has successfully raised more than $10,000 each year.
Tournament proceeds are given to the ALS foundation and the Hunter family.
Haynes said, “The family is close to my heart and Farah Davis’.”
Michele Hunter, Craig’s wife, said, “Craig and I want to thank the committee for their work and love and support. We also want to thank our community for their amazing support. We have always believed that Surry County was the very best place to raise a family and the folks here have reinforced that belief every day for the last three years and four months and more. We feel so blessed, very humbled and completely overwhelmed by the prayers and love and continued support.”
This year’s golf tournament will be Captain’s Choice with 18 holes and have four-person teams.
The day will begin with lunch at 11:30 a.m. Tee time starts at 1 p.m.
The cost to enter the tournament is $90 per person or $325 per team. The fee includes green fees and cart, refreshments during play and lunch at the pavilion.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.
There are eighteen teams signed up, and spots for seven more teams are available. The registration deadline is Sept. 13.
