The Lady Bears rolled over Walkertown to advance in the Northwest Conference Tournament.

The Mount Airy volleyball team won 25-10, 25-20 and 25-15 to reach the semifinals tonight against North Stokes.

“It was a career night for Abby,” said Coach Chuch Morris of sophomore Abby Harold. “It was the biggest night she’s had for us. I was very impressed with her concentration.”

The middle hitter put up season bests with 14 kills and eight blocks. Harold had four stuffs on her own and four combination blocks with a teammate, according to the coach.

Abby also went 20-21 serving with four aces, noted Morris.

Senior Jasmine Varney also had an accurate night at the line with 15-16 serving and three aces.

Setter Sarah Lankford handed out 33 assists.

Libero Charli Hiatt passed well even though she’s been suffering from a head cold, the coach said.

“We played well enough to win,” said Morris. “Hopefully we will have more focus against North Stokes.”

Morris said he was very impressed with the improvement of the Wolfpack from their first meeting five weeks ago.

Coach Danette Handy has done some great work with that team in a short amount of time, he said. In her first year with that team, those girls have learned a ton and still looked like they were having fun with her.

Kathryn Beasley had some huge hits at the net that Walkertown was able to dig up, which was very impressive, he said.

Mount Airy plays in the second semifinal match tonight at Atkins. The Bears face North Stokes at 7 p.m. after the early match of East Surry versus Bishop McGuinness at 5 p.m.
