WESTFIELD — Westfield Elementary School was placed on lock down earlier today after a suspect fleeing police in a vehicle chase abandoned his motorcycle and fled on foot on Jessup Grove Church Road, across from the school.
According to school officials, the suspect was being chased by authorities when he abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a barn near the school. That prompted school officials to place the school on lock down, although they say there was never any danger to the students or faculty at the school.
Officials report the suspect was apprehended in the barn a short time later. The school was locked down as a precaution until the officers determined the scene was secure. The incident is being handled by the North Carolina Highway Patrol. No additional information was immediately available from authorities.
