WALNUT COVE — East Surry’s offense posted 11 runs to defeat South Stokes on the road Tuesday.
The Cardinals scored early and often, then reliever Tyler Marion pitched three scoreless innings to finish off the Sauras 11-3.
Cody Ashburn picked up the win, going four innings and giving up three runs before Marion came on for the fifth inning.
The Cards got on the board in the first inning, with Logan Sheets leading off with a double.
Weston Payne followed with an RBI double and came home himself on a two-run homer by Marion. That made it 3-0.
South Stokes responded by loading the bases in the bottom of the first. The Sauras got one run across with one out, but Ashburn got the next two batters out to escape the jam.
In the second inning, East scored a run to push the margin back to three at 4-1.
An inning later, the Cards added four more runs to the total. The Sauras scored twice themselves to make it 8-3.
Three more runs by the Cards put the game out of reach.
Senior Seth Brim went 2-2 with a single, double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
“He is tearing it up,” assistant coach Chad Freeman said of Brim’s season.
Marion went 2-5 with two runs and two RBIs.
Sheets was 2-3 with a run and RBI. Joshua Sawyers was 1-3 with three RBIs. Madison Chilton was 1-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Cardinals are still renovation their home field, so Friday’s game with Surry Central has been postponed.
The Cards will play three games at Starmount on Saturday.
The JV will play a single game at 11 a.m., followed by a doubleheader for the varsity, possibly around 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
