DOBSON — The Lady Cardinals beat North Stanly 3-0 to advance to the second round of the state 1A soccer playoffs.
East Surry made Surry Central feel like its home away from home as the Cards had to change locations due to renovations of the football field.
East will travel to Kernersville next to take on Bishop McGuinness Saturday. The Lady Villains beat Walkertown 11-0.
Bishop (12-4-2) is a perfect 11-0 against Northwest Conference opponents. In both season meetings, the Villains beat the Cards 5-2.
Against North Stanly, East got on the board first with a goal by Mary Jo Lowe. Maria Mares provided the assist.
Then Mares scored herself off a breakaway.
In the second half, Alayna Speer scored off a penalty kick for the 3-0, then the defense held the rest of the way.
“North Stanly got us out of our rhythm with some physical play,” said Coach Bill Hart. “We had a hard time finishing.”
Keeper Maggie Collins played very well, he added.
“I had to use a lot of subs. Everyone off the bench stepped up.”
Hart said Saturday’s game would start at 2 p.m.
“We had a lead in both games,” Hart said of the Villains. “We’re going to go down there and give them all we got.”
