Tennis coaches James and Mary Alice Hayes will be offering three camps this summer.
The couple has two camps running over four days next week, then another camp five weeks later.
“Our men’s and women’s tennis program at Mount Airy Middle School is well known,” said James Hayes, a member of the Mount Airy Sports Hall of Fame.
“We have won 112 straight matches in ladies’ tennis and have a 120-2 record in the last 12 years,” he said. “We have won the Foothills Conference Championship for 11 straight years.”
“In men’s tennis, we have only lost two matches in 14 years,” Hayes said.
Mary Alice Hayes has led the tennis teams to most of these victories, while James has given private lessons to standouts like Mount Airy number one Davi Barbour and North Surry number one Sarah Glasco.
The camp sessions will be limited to just 12 players so that kids get plenty of individual instruction, James said. Last year, Barbour assisted with the camp, and Hayes said members of the state championship will help again this year.
The first session is June 23-26 from 9 a.m. to noon at the middle school. The second session runs the same days, but from 6-9 p.m. The third session will be July 28-31 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The camps are open to both boys and girls ages 10-15. The cost of the camp is $50.

• In other camp news, Starmount boys basketball coach Rocky Horton said he has received several calls and emails about his camp and wanted to provide more details.
National basketball camp Pro Shot Shooting System will run two camps locally next month.
The first will be at Starmount High July 7-8 from 9 a.m. to noon. The following week, the camp will be at Mount Airy Middle School July 14-15 from 1-4 p.m.
The camps are open to both boys and girls, said Horton. There is no age cutoff, but all shooting will be on 10-foot goals, so some younger players might not be ready for that height.
The cost is $70 per player, and kids should bring their own ball.
Registration forms can be found at www.yadkinbball.com and at SageSport and Hibbett Sport.
The registration forms and checks can be sent to Horton’s Yadkin Valley Basketball Academy or YVBA. The mailing address is 311 Pineview Drive, Mount Airy.
