HILLSVILLE, Va. — Ashley Marshall led the Surry Runnin’ Patriots to a 46-44 team victory last night in Hillsville during a tough fight against the Blue Ridge Panthers.
According to Head Coach Todd Hill, Marshall hooped a 10-footer in the net, after being tied 44-44 with four minutes left to go in the game.
The fourth quarter comeback was well executed by the team, expressed Hill. When the score was tied, Hill indicated that the four corner spread well-performed by his team earned them the victory.
“We spread the floor to four corners making them play man to man,” he said. This forced the Panthers’ out of zone coverage and opened up the Marshall opportunity.
Hill noted his satisfaction with his team’s massive defensive effort that held off a Panther team, leading by as much as eight points during the third quarter.
“We kept our composure and the team played real well and with a lot of poise,” he said. The Panthers had just marched in a large win against Upstate and both teams played a hard match, he said.
Top scorers for the Surry Runnin’ Patriots were: Joye Harrison leading with five assists; and three players, Sydney Bedsaul, Camille Fishel and Kaylee Paris, contributed what Hill called double-doubles. Bedsaul had five assists and 11 points; Fishel had 14 rebounds and 10 points; and Paris had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
