Hickory — The North Surry Greyhound girls basketball team lost to Hickory Tuesday by a score of 60-45.
Head Coach Shane Slate said, “We lost to a very good team. ” Slate said the team is a 3-A team.
“The girls had 21 turnovers in the first half and they just could not recover from that,” Slate said. The coach did say the team improved their play in the second half.
The leading scorers were: Kristina Rumplasch with 13 points; Jordan Badgett with nine points; Erin March and Maddison Hawks contributed eight points; Malaya Johnson had six points and Morgan Hawks scored one.
Rumplasch led the team in rebounding, recording eleven, Johnson hauled in nine and had four blocks; and Erin March recorded five steals.
During the first quarter, Hickory outscored the Greyhounds by six points and in the second quarter outscored them by nineteen. In the second half, the Greyhounds came back, outscoring Hickory by two points and in the fourth quarter, the Greyhounds outscored Hickory by eight points.
The Greyhound girls record is now 1-1 and they will play Carver on Saturday, he said.
The first conference game is next Tuesday and will be played against Mount Airy at home.
