• Trevor Beau Hamilton, 23, of 122 Pipers Gap Road, was charged Tuesday with embezzlement, a felony, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. The place of arrest is listed as Belk Department Store, with Hamilton accused of taking a wallet, belt and boxer shorts from his employer which were valued altogether at $88. He was released on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on Jan. 15.

• A break-in of a motor vehicle was discovered Thursday at Ila Mae Arrington’s residence on West Wensley Drive. It resulted in $329 in damage to the ignition switch of a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu.

• A break-in occurred Wednesday at the home of Glenda Draughn Smith on Bluff Street, where a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson nickel-plated handgun, assorted jewelry including rings and Christmas bracelets, presidential coin books, a change purse with antique coins and pain pills were taken after someone forcibly entered the premises. Damage estimated at $700 occurred to the front door and a garage window.

• A break-in netting the theft of a Surrey Bank and Trust debit card, two white-gold rings, a guitar and a small sum of money was reported Tuesday at a residence on Worth Street. It involved a known individual who entered the home after breaking a door glass. The victims are listed as Miriam Diaz, Fabiola Garcias Sebastian, Carlos Carrillo and Dean Bray Jr., owner of the structure.

• Dwayne Earl Chilton, 43, of 200 Surry Manor, No. 39, Dobson, is facing a hit-and-run violation filed Monday. No details of the offense were listed, but Chilton was held in the Surry County Jail under a $2,000 secured bond. He is slated to be in District Court on Jan. 14.

• Lawrence Lee Tate, a Rockford Street resident, told police Tuesday that a gold, 100-foot Christmas garland was stolen from a flower bed area at his home.

• A Compaq laptop computer and digital camera with a combined valued of $600 were stolen during a break-in discovered Monday at the home of Kayla Denise Ellis on Penn Street. Entry was gained after a door window was broken, causing damage of $150.

• William Waylon Russell Riley, 37, of 241 Rockford St., was cited for larceny on Dec. 1 at Food Lion on West Lebanon Street, where he allegedly took two rib-eye steaks and Mio energy shots, valued altogether at $37. Riley is scheduled to be in District Court on Jan. 16.

• Kana Lynette Torres, 29, of 184 Oak Ave., is facing violations of larceny and possession of stolen goods in connection with a Nov. 29 incident at Walmart, where she is accused of taking miscellaneous boys’ and infant clothing, automotive supplies and DVDs with a total value of $226. Torres’ court date is Jan. 8.

• David Andrew Martinez, 33, of 1102 Fowler Road, is accused of concealment of merchandise on Nov. 29, involving a “Beauty and the Beast” VHS tape at the New 2 U consignment shop. After being confronted by store owner Crystal Snow, Martinez is said to have removed the item from his backpack, placed it on a counter and fled the scene. He later was located by Officer C.K. Edwards on Starlite Road, placed under arrest and subsequently released on a written promise to appear in District Court on Jan. 29.
