PILOT MOUNTAIN — The East Surry Cardinal varsity boys lost Tuesday to Winston-Salem Prep Phoenix who came to Pilot Mountain with a 16-1 record.

The Cards record moved after Tuesday’s loss to 12-6 overall. The Cardinal boys are 5-5 in the conference.

Cardinals Head Coach Jason Anderson said the Phoenix team shot 83 percent from the three-point line in the first half and hit eight three-pointers in all.

Anderson said the team started hitting shots in the second half, but said Winston-Salem Prep was “hitting everything.”

“We are capable of shooting better as a team,” said Anderson.

Overall against the Phoenix, the Cards coach said the team effort was good. Basically though, he said the Cardinal shots that needed to fall didn’t.

The Cards play North Stokes at home on Wednesday.

East Surry scorers against Winston-Salem Prep were: Tyler Pardue with 10 points, Scott Meredith 8, Eli Gilbert 8, Seth Brim 4, Drew Alley 4, Austin Johnson 2, Lamar Shuff 1 and Devon Benton 1.
