The Mount Airy Bears varsity boys basketball team lost to the South Stokes Sauras by a score of 69-43 on Tuesday, dropping their record moved to 6-7 in the conference and 11-8 overall.

Austin Taylor led the Bears with 16 points. Caleb Horton scored six, Khaileel Daley had five, and Dylan Gallimore scored four. Carson Mounce, Isiah Simmons, and Darius Gwyn each scored three. Pablo Garcia scored two, and Garrett Vanhoy had one.

Bears Head Coach Levi Goins said the team came out flat.

“There are no excuses for how we played,” said Goins.

Goins said the Bears team showed very little production on offense, in contrast to the Sauras.

Goins said the Sauras shot 61 percent from the field.

The Bears will meet Winston-Salem Prep on Friday.
