The third-seeded Thomasville Lady Bulldogs overcame second-seeded North Surry Greyhounds on Friday 56-43 in the third round of the state playoffs with turnovers costing the Hounds the victory.
Lady Bulldog Christina Coleman was the game high-scorer with 16 points.
Erin March was the Hound’s high scorer with 13 points. Madison Hawks scored eight, Jordan Badgett seven, Malaya Johnson seven, Kristina Rumplasch six, and Morgan Hawks two.
Joselyn Spires and Timber Tate each scored 11 for the Bulldogs.
Greyhound Head Coach Shane Slate said, “We could not overcome, we had too many turnovers.”
Slate said the Greyhounds registered 30 turnovers total in the game, a fact he was not happy with.
The Hounds did out-rebound the Bulldogs with Malaya Johnson leading with 10. Johnson also had seven assists.
The Bulldogs forced the tempo early, scoring 17 points to the Hounds 8 in the first quarter. The teams went into the half with the Bulldogs ahead 27-20. In the second half, the Bulldogs scored 29 points and the Hounds only scored 16 total.
The three-time conference champion Greyhounds finished the season 25-4 and has made it to the third round of the state playoffs four years in a row.
In other girls state playoff games, the Mount Airy Bears lost to Bishop McGuinness in their third meeting, 56-43. The Lady Bears lost three to the team this season. With the score coming in late, details of the game will be available in Sunday’s edition of The News.
