BEAR CREEK — The East Surry Cardinals baseball team went to 13 innings against Chatham Central and pulled out a victory 5-4 after holding Chatham in a three and out to win in the bottom of the inning.

East Surry was ahead in the top of the fifth by a score of 3-1, but in the seventh, Chatham scored two runs tying up the ball game 3-3.

Then, in the top of the eighth, good defense by Alex Wilson and Cody Ashburn’s throw to home kept Chatham from getting any runners in.

In the 13th inning, East scored after Chilton got home safe on a hit from Alec Wilson and a nice steal to second by him.

Coach Chad Freeman said the pitching was phenomenal with Seth Brim, Scott Meredith and Lucas Koons.

The three pitchers together threw 14 strike outs and one walk, said Freeman.

East’s record is 4-2 and will play Surry Central away on Tuesday.
