North Surry’s Austin Barker pulled out a close win against West Stokes Tuesday.

The North Surry Greyhounds claimed their first conference of the season, 5-4 over West Stokes on Tuesday.

The number one seed Samuel Holder defeated Andrew Holmes by a score of 7-6, 7-4, 6-3. At the second seed position, Austin Barker rallied for a victory in a tiebreaker match with scores 4-8, 6-2, 10-8. At the third seed, Corbin Willard lost to Covington who won 6-3, 6-1. At the fourth seed, Ryan Critz lost to Sam Elter who won 6-4, 6-2.

At the fifth seed D.J. Boyles won 6-3, 6-2 and at the sixth seed, Alex Jones won 0-6, 6-2, 10-5,

Hounds Coach Drew Belton said Jones a freshman, picked up his first win and turned the tide making the score 3-3. Belton also called the rally by Barker “a big win” and a much needed one.

The Bears doubles teams team then pulled out victories to give the team the conference win.
