Benefits and Fundraisers

n Bannertown Baptist Church will have Operation Christmas Child through Monday. The shoebox schedule is Friday, 1 to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, 1 to 6 p.m.; and Monday 8 to 10 a.m. For more information, call Ronnie Simpson at 789-2505 or the church office at 786-5407.

n Salem United Methodist Church will be having a dinner and concert featuring Soldiers Again on Saturday. Dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas, cranberry salad, rolls, dessert, tea and coffee. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Proceeds will go to the church building fund.

n Wards Gap Church will be having a bake sale on Saturday at Mayberry Mall. There will be all types of cakes, pies, fried pies, cupcakes, brownies, fudge, pumpkin rolls, biscuits and more. Proceeds will go to church projects.

n Mount Bethel Moravian Church will have a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Breakfast will be served from 7 to 10 a.m., the bazaar will open at 8 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. There will be a quilt raffle, Christmas room, Moravian items, country store, bakery and Moravian chicken pies.

n The First Church of the Brethren will have a poor man’s supper Saturday at 5 p.m. This benefit is for the youth to attend the National Youth Conference.

n The Church of God of Prophecy, 123 Mahone St., Mount Airy, will have a Thanksgiving harvest sale on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. A country breakfast will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with hot dogs, chicken stew and polish sausage with green peppers and onions. Several items will be sale in the silent auction with bidding ending at 2 p.m. All proceeds go to special projects.

n The 16th annual Joanne Jordan Memorial Meal Project will be held at First Baptist Church of Mount Airy on Wednesday. The Emmanuel Sunday School Class will be delivering turkey meals to the less fortunate families in the area. Each meal consists of a 10-12 pound turkey, dressing, gravy, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls and a pumpkin pie. The amount of food should feed a family of four to five. $33 is a suggested donation. Church volunteers are welcome to deliver. For more information, call the church at 786-5185.

n Zephyr Missionary Baptist Church, Poplar Springs Road, Elkin, will be holding a community can food drive on Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. rain or shine.

n Mallalieu-Jones United Methodist Church, 231 N. South St., Mount Airy, will be holding a fish-fry fundraiser. The cost is $4 for a fish sandwich and a drink. This fundraiser will be held every Friday.

Special Services

n Grace Moravian Church will be celebrating its Thanksgiving Lovefeast during the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

n New Life Baptist Church will be having a Chrismon service on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. Refreshments and fellowship will follow in the fellowship hall.

n A special fifth Sunday service will be held on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. with a special singing and testimonials at Pleasant View Baptist Church. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall at 5 p.m. following the service.

Special Music

n The Messengers Quartet will sing at Hills Grove Baptist Church in Claudville, Va., Sunday at 6 p.m.

n A gospel singing performed by Phil Tilley will be held at Westfield Baptist Church on Sunday at 6 p.m. A love offering will be taken for autism therapy expenses for Dylan Arrington, 5-year-old son of Scott and Chrissy Arrington. Light refreshments will be served.

n The Harvesters Quartet will be in concert at Mount Airy Wesleyan Church, 2063 S. Main St., on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. The concert is free but a love offering for the quartet will be taken. For more information, call the church office at 786-7250.

n Vessels of Clay will be singing at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

n Hanging of the Greens will be held at Westfield Baptist Church on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. Refreshments and fellowship will follow in the fellowship hall.

n Hanging of the Greens will be held at Mount Airy Christian Church, 974 S. Franklin Road, on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. The Bellisma Ringer Quartet will be performing and light refreshments will be served after the service.

n The Cody Kirsch Family Team for Relay for Life will be sponsoring a “No Room at the Inn” at First Baptist Church on Dec. 5 and 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a large display of nativity scenes, more than 200. Some are from other countries, collector’s items, family heirlooms, handmade and special. Donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Church groups are invited. n Haymore Baptist Church will be having wood carving for free. Bring a carving knife. The class is one hour and a six-week workshop starting on Oct. 28. The workshop will be held on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. For more information or to reserve a spot, call 786-7435.

n Come create crafts for the Christmas season at Haymore Baptist Church. Make Christmas snowflakes, Chrismon angels, sequined ornaments, Chrismon cross and a Christmas tree. The workshop lasts for five weeks and will be held on Wednesdays starting on Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per person. For more information or to reserve a spot, call 786-7435.

n The First Baptist Church Feeding Friends Soup Kitchen provides a free hot meal to families and friends in need every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The church is between Elm and Galloway streets at 714 N. Main St. Parking is available behind First Baptist off Arch Street. The feeding friends dinner is served in the fellowship hall in the building closest to downtown, with signs available to guide visitors.

n A free “soup kitchen” is available on the last Thursday of each month in the Piney Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come as they are with no strings attached. The church is at 278 Piney Grove Road, which can be reached at 356-4196.

n Food assistance for the hungry in the community is provided each Thursday at 8:30 a.m. by Trinity Episcopal Church.

n Meetings for those healing from a broken marriage, each Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Genesis Full Gospel Church on Sparger Road. Everyone is invited, with more information available at 351-4718.

n The Apostolic Ministerial Association is seeking new ministers of the Apostolic faith in order to encourage meetings with others that can help improve individual ministries. Those interested may call 789-1569 or 325-8081.

n Men’s interdenominational Bible study and prayer breakfast, 7 to 8 a.m. each Wednesday at Prime Sirloin Restaurant in Mount Airy. All interested men are invited.

n GriefShare, a bi-weekly video seminar featuring experts on grief-recovery topics which is geared toward grieving persons or their supporters in a group-participation environment, is held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:15 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 314 S. Franklin Road. “Surviving the Holidays” is a program that will be held on Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. for those who have lost a loved one. More information is available at 786-4778.

n Holy Angels Catholic Church weekly Evening Prayer Service, Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the church, 1208 N. Main St., Mount Airy. The service includes giving thanks for the gifts of the day and reflection; Evening Prayer hymns and psalms and Scripture readings; time for silent prayer and meditation; and prayers of intercession for the church, world and all those in need. n Compassion Circle gatherings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at L.H. Jones Resource Center, 215 Jones School Road. n Livingwater Baptist Church, 125 Starlight Road, Mount Airy, is launching a new ministry. The King James Bible RadioNetwork is being broadcast on 89.7 in Pilot Mountain. The station will be devoted to old time gospel preaching from the King James 1611 Bible and traditional gospel singing 24 hours a day. Churches and preachers desiring broadcast time and wishing to have their announcements broadcast, contact Pastor Benny Faw at 719-6500.

n Fountain of Life will be having a clothing closet that is free to the public on Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m.
