Crowds and cars soon spill over onto Davis Street where admirers gathered to get a close look and talk about the vehicles. There will be another cruise-in this weekend, in Dobson, beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Jerry and Becky Ludwig are one of several couples to add a patriotic flair to their vehicles. Cruise-in regulars, the Salisbury couple are shown with their 1923 “T-bucket” equipped with a 305 engine and a 350 transmission. “I built it about eight years ago,” Jerry Ludwig noted, “and we’ve been loving it ever since.” There will be another cruise-in this weekend, in Dobson, beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.

While nearby storms and a couple of showers may have kept some cars and enthusiasts away, the streets of downtown Pilot Mountain were still packed throughout the evening with plenty of classic vehicles and cruise-in fans. Car lovers of all ages gather on Depot Street to check out July’s Classic Ride of the Month, a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner convertible owned by Turk Bates of State Road. There will be another cruise-in this weekend, in Dobson, beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.
