New York Times bestselling author Sharyn McCrumb will be visiting Mount Airy this weekend.
McCrumb, who is widely known for her Ballad series set in Appalachia, will be presenting her latest work, Prayers the Devil Answers, on the third floor of the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Set in 1936, Prayers the Devil Answers is about a woman in a rural Tennessee town who becomes sheriff after her father, the previous sheriff, dies, according to Amazon.com. “Her role is largely symbolic, except for the one task that only a sheriff can do: execute a convicted prisoner.”
Amazon’s summary states, “Soon enough, dark secrets come to light, and Ellie must grapple with small-town superstitions and the tenuous ties she shares with a condemned killer as she carves out a place for herself in an uncertain future.”
Sunday’s event is free for the public and sponsored by the museum, the Mount Airy Public Library and the Plaid Cloth Literary Society.
The museum is located at 301 North Main St. Those in need of more information may call the museum at 786-4478 or the library at 789-5108.
