City police reports


• Drema Lee Lovill, 34, of 274 Dock Golding Road, Lowgap, was served with an outstanding warrant for a larceny charge after being located at a Worth Street address in Mount Airy on June 28, according to city police department reports. The warrant had been issued through the Surry County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 15, with no other details listed. Lovill is free on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on Aug. 22.

• Police were told on June 29 that a theft had occurred at Mayberry Market & Souvenirs (formerly Mayberry Consignments) on North Main Street downtown. A Nymphe black and white long-sleeve shirt valued at $26 was taken by an unknown female suspect who is said to have concealed items in her purse and left without paying.

• Gary Lee Ayers Jr., 27, of 439 Flint Hill Road, Cana, Virginia, was arrested on outstanding warrants for charges of violating a domestic violence protective order and domestic criminal trespassing after police investigated a civil disturbance at Quality Inn on Rockford Street on June 25. Those charges had been filed on June 2. Ayers was confined in the Surry County Jail, with no bond figure listed, and slated for an Aug. 29 District Court appearance.

• William Cody Cecil, 25, of 109 Hickory St., was cited for concealment of merchandise on June 27 at Lowes Foods, involving food items valued at $72. Cecil is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on Aug. 22 and has been banned from Lowes Foods as a result of the incident.

• Justin Alexander Brown, 31, of 163 Glen Terrace, was served with an outstanding criminal summons on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after he was encountered by police at a Taylor Street location during their investigation of a suspicious vehicle on June 27. The charge had been filed through the Surry County Sheriff’s Office on April 5 with Shawn Anthony Martin of Mayberry Avenue as the complainant. Brown is scheduled to appear in District Court on Aug. 5.
